has to be reflashed?
i called someone who was selling a mopar performance pcm and he said he would not ship it because he has already shipped it out and had it sent back. the person who had it before couldnt install it because they said it had to be reflashed by the dealer to match the VIN. is this true? shouldnt you just be able to unplug the old one and plug in the new one?
It will work fine. You are SUPPOSED to reflash it with the VIN and mileage of the vehicle so they match. It doesn't affect ops though. Well ... except the little guy who reminds you to put your seatbelt on won't go away. I read a report that claimed reflashing with the proper VIN fixes that though.
My understanding is that MGDMike replaced his 5.2 with a 5.9 and used the same PCM. It worked ok but when he replaced the original computer with one for the 5.9 ... it was like night and day. 4x2 vs. 4x4 doesn't matter a lick on the PCM. Mine is from a 4x2 and works fine.
96 MP PCM at the time was rated by Mopar Performance to give
20hp/26ftlbs torque at the crank or about 15rwhp. Based on how much my ets dropped I would say that number is accurate IMHO

On my '99, I have two Mopar Performance PCM's. I have tried both, and both worked fine with no VIN flash needed, and I also have no dash light issues. They work perfectly. I was told in advance that it would cause my truck to go into limp-home mode, so I carried my stock PCM around with me just in case. That turned out to not be true.
