Default Off topic-ford ranger heater prob

My friend has a ford with a bum heater. He says it eventually gets warm but it takes too long. I asked him if he smells antifreeze, and he said he didn't. I told him he should consider getting his radiator flushed. I'm still learning how my own truck works (not a pro). Is this a good idea?

I'm betting that the system either needs to be flushed, or his thermostat is going bad.

Thanks VWandDodge. His engine temp is below halfway mark. I think he's a good candidate for a coolant flush.

I'd replace the t-stat as well. It's cheap and easy as long as he's flushing it.

You know what? I think they really really need to replace that tstat as well. He said the check engine light just came on, and it has done so intermittently in the past.

I asked if it happened during any specific type of driving, city or highway...no random.
I asked if it came on with the vehicle, then turned off later when it was warm, or vice versa...no.
I asked him if it happened any specific time of year...yes, winter.

There you go. Might want to check the sensor that monitors the coolant temp.
