im assuming the relay is on the bottom side of the stearing column? anything i should know before doing it? any tabs or something i may break that i should take note of?

Isin't your flasher relay in the fuse block that is located inside the cab? Look for a round plastic, or metal shaped object adjacent to the fuses. About the diameter of a $.50 cent piece.
