WTF!!! Stealership wants $200+ for fuel filter???!!!
So I went to my local Stealership ,and got a price for a new fuel filter. They are telling me Just over $230 CDN tax included. You would think this is the price for a fuel pump! I know you boys would not dish that kind of cake out to the stealership, so where do I get a good one for a more reasonable price. Was this guy just f+#$ed up, or this the real going price??
What year is your truck? Last I heard (and have seen) the fuel pump and filter are all one unit. The regulator acts like the third stage in the system. There is a screen at the bottom, followed by an internal filter, and then there's the regulator. How many miles on your truck? If you look at my first engine thread, you'll see how dirty my regulator was.
She has about 97000 miles, and it is a 98 5.2. So I have no choice, I have to buy the entire unit pump and all? I just bought the truck 5 weeks ago, for all I know it may have been done already too???
when I did mine the pump and filter was all one unit. it was about 200 bucks two years ago, so that sounds about right. on of the dodge f-ups, putting the filter in the tank
$230 is a great price because as VWandDodge said it is all one unit. I had to pay $299 for mine at Auto Zone. Then you also have to drop the tank or pull the bed. I have a 97 though so that may make a difference.
why do you think you need a fuel filter?

I just really like to try and keep things maintained. I recently had starting troubles, then put in some Lucas fuel system cleaner. So far, she starts every time. The truck was also parked for a year before I got it, so who knows what is floating around in there....
How good are you mechanically? Can you solder? If so, then I have the lower part of a unit. The only problem is that the sending unit is inaccurate. It has *maybe* 300 miles on it. I can walk you through how to swap the top with the one on your unit. Figure spending a Saturday afternoon on it and I'll let you have it for $75.
You just want to remove this part from the top of your existing unit and fit it over the bottom piece that I have.
It's smart for you to stay on top of maintenance. You can get a new regulator for about $25 at the FLAPS. I even have the clip that secures the hose to the regulator. Worst case, send me your pump and I'll rebuild it.
