That works for me! So why exactly do the instructions say to have it flashed? Will installing the new PCM pop a code or a CEL that has to be reset by the dealer?

Codes on the MP PCM do not match Mopar Perf part #s.
My MP PCM for 96 5.9 auto trans federal has P04886 on it yet the MP catalogue # is P5249935

That is what you are supposed to do if it is brand new. That is how they VIN match it to your vehicle. That was already done to the ones I have, just not my VIN. It doesn't prevent it from working in any other vehicle though.

Well mine is brand new, so should I have it flashed or does it not make any difference? If it does not affect the odometer or function of the PCM I may just install it myself and just have the dealer flash the vin for me at another time.

Sounds like it's workin' for ya'.

My '96 PCM has the catalog # that RM_Indy stated, but none of the other numbers mentioned here match anything on mine. I do have a pic of mine if you want it, but it sounds like you got the right part!

Mine was "plug and play", but I think other years are different. I asked here before installing mine, and was told it could be swapped back and forth with the stock unit.
