bogged down, lost power, strange noise, no brakes....HELP!!
I bought a 97' Ram 1500 on Monday and Wednesday evening I was sitting on the side of the interstate waiting for a tow truck
I was driving around 75 mph and the truck lost a lot of power suddenly. It bogged down and acted like I was towing a house behind it. It was also making a strange noise (kinda like wide tires running on that wierd asphalt they put on the side of the road). I pulled over, turned off the truck, and decided to try to make it to the next exit. It lagged really bad and wouldn't go over 45. The tow truck driver says it now runs fine but that the brakes went out when he was unloading it at the shop. Anyone have any ideas what the heck is wrong with it?? Thanks!!

bogged down, my guess is the cat shat out on you which would make it feel like your towing a house and not allow for any speed...as for the brakes, the tow truck guy is probably at fault for that, he probably clipped a line with his tie down chains
Cat sounds clogged, replace it with a magnaflow hi flow cat, cheaper and better.
Take the pre cat O2 out and see if it will run better, the hole that the O2 goes in will let enough exhaust out for it to run better.
Or maybe the fuel pump, check cat first though.

No brakes would make me look at the vacuum system. Broken line, bad check valve? Perhaps it's tied in to all the other problems. Rough running truck could cause insufficient vacuum.
Good luck.
Good luck.
