Default '98 1500 5.9 ?'s

Hey all, im new here and im hoping you all can give me some advice! I have a '98 1500 with the 360. The only thing i have on it is a k&n air filter. I am currently getting around 9mpg or 10 mpg, if im lucky, in the city. I was wondering if i purchase the air intake system by k&n or other brands, and/or add straight pipes, that if it will give me better gas mileage and some more power i know it will sound a lot better, i was just wondering if it will make me happy to see even 2 or 3 mile a gallon better than i currently am seeing. thanks alot guys for any and all help!

Thats odd... I towed a camaro (3400lbs) with my 5.9 and averaged 10mpg from Oklahoma to Texas... (over 450miles)

1. Fuel injecter cleaner in a higher concentration than it says on the bottle
2. High flow air filter, or just clean the K&N you have
3. Sea Foam or Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner
4. Synthentic Oil
5. Marvel Mystery oil in the crank (.5 qt) and the other half in the gas

10 mpg is low.. but then again it is a 5.9 and i have a 5.2 getting (well was getting) about 13.5 on the highway with 285's.. now with these 35's i'll be lucky to hit 300 miles to a full tank

yank off your TB and look down into the intake for oil pooling on the bottom... look in all the corners. a light film is normal, pooling is not. if you find any your plenum is leaking and contributing to poor mileage.

I assume you've already done the basics in the form of a tune up...

a CAI will boost performance but havent seen 1 yet that actually imroved mileage. I'd stay away from straight pipes... it'll kill your low end torque and you'll have worse mileage in the city.

welcome to DF...
