Slotting the holes on the cps will allow you to advance or retard the timing on your truck. Advancing the timing can give you more power and better gas mileage but to much timing can cause spark knock and worse gas mileage. When I did mine I remove my cps and put the bracket in my vice to hold it and I just used an old metal cutting drill bit to slot the holes. On the one side where you are sloting away from the sensor I went all the way through and left no material so I could get the most advance possible and I have had no problems. I highly recommend this mod it is free and it makes a difference you can feel.

Yes the superchips does advance the timing. If you don't have a pinging problem and say you can run the premium program with 87 fuel I would advance it some more. Every truck is different. I have my timing advanced at the cps the timing chain and with a mopar performance pcm and saw power improvements with all 3. I still have no issues with pinging (knock on wood). All you can do is try it and see if it helps and doesn't ping if it pings no harm done just put it back the way it was. That is the beauty of a free mod like this.
