Default Auburn LSD question

Hey guys, I'm finally getting around to fixing the posi in my truck. There are reconditioned Auburn units cheap on eBay. What does it mean when they say no ABS tone ring? I assume the Auburn's are ABS compatible. Is the "tone ring" something that I would take off my stock carrier and bolt to the Auburn, much like the ring gear? I'm confused!!

I thought the tone ring was on the end of the axle so the ABS could tell how fast a wheel was turning. Are you buying the whole axle or just the center section? Sounds like the whole axle is for sale.......................Griz

The tone ring is inside the differential and is how the RWAL/RWSS generates it's signal. Should be salvagable from your old unit.

The tone (exciter) ring is press fit onto the differential case (the carrier). I have no experience with the Auburn LS so I couldn't tell you if they are designed to take one. I assume it comes with it's own case.

TMS, is it pressed on? Bolted on?

There are 2 Auburn LSD available. One for a tone-ring and one
without a tone-ring. You need the Auburn LSD for a tone-ring,
of course.

It is a press fit but it should not be pressed on hydraulically,
as it will likely crack.

Instead, get a pan big enough to hold the tone-ring and then
boil water in it. Once boiling, put the tone ring in the pan for
a few minutes. Then remove the tone-ring and install it on
the carrier PROMPTLY.
