How do you change the u joints

Default How do you change the u joints

on the front axel on a 4x4 on each side [not on the drive line] im not sure on this truck if this is what there called but ok its a 1995 ram 1500 exd cab 4x4 with the 5.9 auto

its kind of a bitch to get the hub nut off. everything else isnt that bad.

Great link. I need to do the u joints in the front of my 97 1500, but the hubs are fine. Is it going to be easier to pull the hubs like they did on the link, or to pull the whole knuckle by disconnecting it at the ball joints and tie rod end. Like I said, the hubs are fine, not going to replace those.

Just pull the hubs with the shaft in place, You can change the cross joints this way, it will be just a little harder vs taking the shaft out of the hub. No need to pull the knuckle.

Edit: Mark those shaft ends at the cross-joint before you take them apart to change the cross-joint.

This will give you an idea what you will be looking at.

i had fun trying to find the part, not sure what auto parts store you have but if you go to autozone dont call em u joints, i guess they refer to them as wheel joints in there computer, other wise there not smart enough to find and they will tell you all u joints are the same.
