Default Q about improving gas mileage?

Hello every one. I am wondering what every one has found to improve their gas mileage for their trucks. I have a 2001 ram sport that I just bought last month. Please let me know if any one has had any luck with improving gas mileage. I was thinking of changing the exhaust and TB but not sure if that would help.

the best way to improve your gas mileage is to keep your foot out of it

the cold air intake and other products like that say they will improve gas mileage but i dont know if it will or not so im just going to get them for performance

i figure id rather have power than a couple bucks more at the tank(but thats just me)

welcome to df...

anything you can do to improve low end torque will help with mileage. CAI kits will help performance but it ends up being a trade off... your right foot has a lot to do with it.

There are many ideas on improving Ram MPG in this long read:

https://dodgeforum.com/m_447500/tm.htm

Since we are entering winter
pay particular attention to the tips on

1. removing the stock 5 bladed fan during cold weather
2. using a block heater overnight to that you 'warm start'
and get the MPG benefit shown in the U of Florida graph for the first 10 miles
3. raise the air pressure in your tires
4. consider making or buying a tonneau bed cover
5. balancing your EGT's using a cheap Sears multimeter with type K thermocouple
6. $65 Viper V10 pulley as an under drive on 3.9/5.2/5.9

the above tips are presently the most 'cost effective' truck mods.

Driver behavior is by far the most 'cost effective' as it is almost free.

As the section on the husband/wife team of the Taylors shows
driver technique can improve MPG 15-30% by itself.

Cummins also says that there is up to a 30% difference in MPG
when different drivers
drive the exact same truck over the exact same route.

GM and Ford claim even greater difference in driver technique.

Chrysler, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM
engineers all state
Cold Air Intakes don't improve daily driving MPG.

When was the last time you saw an advertisement
from one of the automakers that this year's model
had a new air intake that improved MPG?

Contrast this to GM bragging that sealing off the tow hook holes improved MPG slightly by 0.25:

Claiming that Cold Air Intakes improves gasoline vehicle MPG
is one of the biggest frauds in auto parts.
Don't waste your money.
