Default nitrogen in tires

has anyone on here heard of replacing the air in you tires with nitrogen ???? I got new BFG today and the guy filled the tires with nitrogen for a few extra bucks , he said it is supposed to stay the same pressure even with temp change and help gas mileage ... he also said if i ever have a flat that he replaces the nitrogen for free , the cost was 3 bucks a tire

yeah i heard that the nitrogen molecules are bigger than oxygen therefore they dont seep through the rubber overtime, sounds alright deal to me

its not as much as thru the rubber as it is around between the bead and rim to my understanding.

It's supposed to save gas because your tires don't leak down as fast (if they leak down at all) therefore keeping you from running underinflated. Seems like if you check your pressures regularly like you're supposed to, you shouldn't need it.

If you buy new tires at Costco, they fill them with Nitrogen, (green valve caps)! Great prices and free rotation and balancing for life of the tire! I get Michelins there for all of my vehicles!

I want to try helium. Maybe it'll make my truck lighter so i'll get better gas mileage.

Yeah. Unless you're racing it really doesn't make that much of a difference. There are two different types of machine. One that fills it up with all nitrogen and one that fills it up with a mix. Wich is funny cuz ambient air is 80% nitrogen. But 100% nitrogen, you'll have to make up your mind.

the only people who will get any advantage from filling their tires with nitrogen would be high performance race cars where they need to change the tire pressure by tenths of a psi. using nitrogen in passenger vehicles has no advantage whatsoever.

Pure nitrogen in tires doesn't support oxidation, so the tires won't rot from the inside......that said, normal air is already 78% nitrogen, so I doubt the effects on anything would be something to write home about.........
