Default Towing Questions

I have a 2001 quad cab 5.9 V8 4x4 with auto trans. Has a factory hitch and wiring but I don't think a trailer towing package, becuase no trans cooler.

I'm thinking about getting a car trailer and the car and the trailer will be up close to the rated tow, 6000 to 7000 or so. I will only be running to shows occasionaly, this is not for work.

All I want to know is from those of you have experience towing, am I dreaming or could I do it? Tranny has already been rebuilt by someone I trust with good parts. What else do I need, besides a dually Cummins?

Thanks.......................Griz

Default RE: Towing Questions

I have a 99' with the sport package. Also had the hitch and plug, but i'm not totally sure if the trans cooler came with the truck. I believe it did though. Anyway, ive towed a 22' bass boat all over the north east, my 25' scarab boat back and forth to Lake George, and a 20' trailer with 3 or 4 quads on it (about 600 lbs each) and one in the bed a few times out into PA going to paragon, and can't complain how the truck handled any of those yet. The bass boat is by far the nicest towing though with the trailer brakes and all, but ive towed all down the highway at speeds of 80 - 90 nicely. Sometimes a little rough when i get to a hill, depending on the grade, but definitely cant complain at all. A lil rough on the gas millage haha, but thats expected.
You can always add a trans cooler onto the truck too. The radiator is nice to get to with the grill coming up with the hood and all. Just use some good rubber hoses and extend the trans line to the cooler, and i double clamp them just to be sure they'll stay on tight. Also, watch that the hoses don't rub against metal. My old blazer sprung a leak where the original owner ran the hose through the front next to the radiator.
