Default bank 1 circuit malfunction? fixed!!!

code p0340, camshaft position sensor bank 1 circuit malfunction. does anyone know what this is? replaced crank sensor. helped for about a mile, died. periodically dying. no fire. autozone says that cam position sensor not required on my truck. 96 2500 4x4 360.
quit smoking from exhaust by the way. im totally lost and do not want to spend $$$$$$ at dealership cause i can do most of the crap they do myself just dont know what the hell this is, even old guy at autozone was stumped.

cam position sensor and crank postion sensor are 2 completely different parts. cam sensor is in your distributor and crank is on the back of your engine
