K&N drop in
I got a K&N drop in filter. It seems to add a pony or two, but im sure thats just wishful feeling. Two questions though. Will the oils on the filter negitavely affect my sensors such as tps. annnnd #2...does it actually add more than like 1-2 horses?
nope, will not affect any of your sensors... when you clean it and re-oil it, dont go hog wild on it and you'll be fine. read the instructions... I would expect 7~8 hp & some torque out of it...
I hear a lot of people say, yea i felt something; and a lot saying, no i didnt notice anything. It could be the weather, but it feels slightly stronger. Sounds better atleast. Id really like to open up the intake box though. That thing is beeeggggging to breath.

I didn't notice a difference when I put mine in.

on a stock motor
5000 lb/245 hp = 20.4 lbs/hp...
5000/255 (best case) = 19.6...
20.4 - 19.6= 0.8 change in your power to weight ratio...
I put one in my 3.9 std cab dakota and barely felt it. noticed it more on the top end.

The best comparison test of the KN drop in versus other filters was at this Duramax website (now off line) but that is saved in the Internet Archive run by Google:

my estimate is that at the highest rpms (+4000)
the 'oiled gauze' air filter like the KN
adds no more than 1% to peak hp.
Below 3500 rpm, where most daily driving is done, the gain is too little to measure.
