jack question
Not to steal the thread but on the topic of jacking, is there anything more to swaping 285's and 265's than removing the bolts, taking the tire off, and putting the other one on?
nope thats it.. use a impact on steel wheels and just a tire iron on aluminum.. also make sure the lugs are centered in the wheel.. if not they will work their way loose over time (trust me i know)
it wont necessarily damage the rims.. but with the impact on the alum rims doesnt get it tight enough.. you can run them down on the stud with an impact and get the snug enough to be able to set the truck down on the tires,, but go along and tighten them with a lug nut wrench... alum rims are notorious for allowing lugs to loosen.. my buddies 44 when flying down RT 21 in beaufort SC, one night b.c he impacted his lugs onto his alum rim and didnt tourqe or hand tighten them.. ever see what a 44" inch bogger doing 50mph does to a toyota corrola and a chain link fence? ive found a munch of my lugs loose with my alums... i just check them once a month.. i made the mistake of using loctite on them once.. and that headache wasnt worth the conveince of not taking 5 mins out of a month to round around the truck with a tire iron...
