I just acquired a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD 5.2 5-speed. It starts great, idles a little rough when cold, a little less rough when warm, will quite often stall just off idle when engaging the clutch, and has an intermittant/occasional dead spot out on the road. Once in awhilewhen cruising, the power will suddenly go "flat", like a dead spot, but if you let off on the gas then step back down on it it'll come right out of it. The PO told me that it will sometimes back fire through the exhaust as well. It blew off the back end of the muffler in fact. The fuel gauge always reads toolow and generally "wonky", but the fuel pump was replaced recently along with the plugs, cap, and rotor. The PO said none of this made a difference in how it ran.Otherwise, the truck is very driveable, and has normal power I would say. After reading abouthalf of the total number of posts in "2nd generation", I haven't run across this particular symptom that I recall, butI'll be cleaning the TB and sensors next opportunity since they typically have so many dirt/carbon issues. The vehicle has 157K, but only about 40K since an engine rebuild.I'm sure I'll find plenty to do. Any suggestions about whythe vehicle runs the way it does? Thank you for any help. What a great site, glad to be here. Scott

You may have multiple issues, ie timing could be off a bit and or there may be some vacume leaks.
Got to https://dodgeforum.com/m_650938/mpag.../tm.htm#651620and look at Post #7. It's an easy and inexpensive item to check and should yeild some improvement.
Good luck and keep us posted.

cgb864,
After letting my truck sit for a few months, I decided to get it running right. I ended up cleaning the throttle body, replaced the MAP and TPS sensors, found a vacuum line to the EGR valve unplugged, and replaced the O2 sensor. It runs verywell now. The O2 sensor solved the bigproblem. The gas gauge seems to read correctly now as well.Thank you for the input you gave me so long ago, I appreciate it.
