Engine sqweekin!
I sure hope someone can help me on this becuase I can't find a mechanic in this town that knows whats up. I have a 1997 1500, 318, 4x4 with a "sqweek, sqweek" coming from somewhere on the engine up front. I say Water Pump but the mechanics look at me like I'm on Crack. They all said "Belt Tensioner" so I went out and spent $90 on something I knew was not the problem. Noise is still there. It seems to be OK when it's first started up but after about 15 min it starts to sqweek again. The noise increases and decreases with engine RPM. The engine does not overheat, nor is it having any difficulty performance wise. Please.........does anyone have any ideas? THANKS!!!!!!!!
You could also use somthing like a long extension or somthing for a stethascope. Might sound a bit crazy, but my friend showed me that it works. Put it to your alt and wat not an if the sqeek is in it, ya might be able to find where its comin from without buying anything. I dont know how much an engine stethascope is, but figure a few bucks saved is always good around this time of year! Happy Holidays!
Thanks all for suggestions. It's a constant sqweek type noise. I've already replaced the belt. All pulleys have been checked for tightness. There is no play in any of the pulleys or the Water Pump. The mechanics all checked with the screwdriver to the ear thing and one tried an engine stethescope. They could not tell me where the noise was coming from. Today it was fairly loud. Seems louder from underneath the trcuk. I'm scared to even thing about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
