high rpms to shift 2nd to 3rd automatic
99 4x4 quad 179,000
I just started noticing that when driving from take off, the rpms get high to about 3.5 k before it shifts into third. I am on vacation and had drove itabout10 hours yesterday.I started to notice it when I would stop at a light or getting gas. Today will be another long drive. Highway speedseverything seems to be fine. Anyone else experience similar. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed 3k miles ago.

i doubt yours is the same case as mine, but my trans wouldn't shift into 3rd or OD until about 4000 rpms after i went wheelin hard a couple of times. i assumed i got some water in the trans, after i changed the fluid it was fine.
not sure what yours could but, but water in the fluid or low fluid could do that

i have same problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd. only with high rpms but only after i give it more than half throttle. Took it to transmission place and had the fluid and filter changed, they said problem was with the tranny and i needed it rebuilt but i'm sure they say that to everyone. Possibly to TV cable but haven't checked into it yet
I have the same problem...sounds like a recurring nightmare for everyone...but it only happens when the trans is cold, after iv been driving for about 5 min it settles down to normal. I plan on doing a fluid/filter change, hopefully that will cure the ail.
had the same problem about 3 months ago and then the check engine light came on. it was the output speed sensor on the tranny. it cost $30 at napa. very easy install all you need is a cresent wrench and some rags cause a little tranny fluid will come out when you pull the old one.
