Stock stereo problems.
I´m having problems with my stereo, -96 Ram 1500.
It does sometimes respond to buttons, volume etc, and sometimes not, sometimes the radio stops transmitting also, and you can turn the volume as much as you want without something happening.
Now my question is, how do i remove the instrument panel/Plastic frame around the stereo to acess the stereo?
I have crawled around in the cab and the only screws i´m finding is 2 in the ashtray, and two by the cupholder. Something tells me it should be more mounting points then that.
Anyone that has removed thier stock stereo wants to help me out here?
Thanks

All you have to do is remove the black plastic trim around the stereo and the instrament panel. It just pops right out. Grab a hold of if right above the istrument panel and give it a yank, it will pop righ out and you can get to the mounting bolts for you stereo.

mine had a similiar issue, stock cd player.radio would only occasionally work... so i just replaced it with a nice pioneer, no problems since.
Funny you would say that, i was kind of thinking about using some violence on it since i really couldnt find any screws, so i will give at serious try then, and hope that i dosent brake!
Thanks guys.

Anhy suggestions on a stereo that will fit? do i need a converter/adapter kit for the wiring or the stereo? Would like to have one with a memory card reader.
I'd recommend ordering a radio from Crutchfield.com Two months ago I ordered a Balupunkt CD player for my Ram. It came in four days, included a harness (meant I didn't need to cut & splice my original harness, so if I want to re-install the OEM stereo I can). It also included an install sheet that tells you step-by-step how to do the install yourself. It took a buddy of mine and I about two hours to install (we spent way too long planning on what we we're going to do before we did it).
