Default Caution with Summit's Direct fit Cat *w/pic* UPDATED

Well after reading all my brain could handle in this Sweet forum i found out my Cat was plugged. So I ordered a direct fit Cat from summit (summit # MPE-23285) to go with the new Cat back exhaust also. So i get it all buttoned up and there is a big leak! Further investigation reveals that some one or some robot, not sure what they use, forgot to weld all around the bung for the front o2 sensor. Man i was pissed! and to top it off i couldn't get the welder wand in there to do it on the truck so i had to take that effer off again. so watch out boys and girls.

Summit has been very good to me when I have had problems with their parts. Contact them by phone and talk to them in a friendly manner about the problem and what you had to do to fix it. E-mailing a copy of the photo to your contact person will help as it proves there was a problem in the manufacturing process.

He's right, make sure it's a friendly tone. I have worked in retail business for a long time, and I have been more than happy to bend over backwards to help a friendly customer with a problem. If the customer is crappy to me, I don't give a crap about them and I just want them out of my face.

definitely give them a call. let them know that you had to use your own welder, supplying your own rod and gas, and it cost you hours of your time. even tell em you had to take a day off of work to fix their problem.

if you say youre not looking for a freebie, but just a small reimbursement for all the time/money you had to invest to fix their error, i'm sure they'll treat you right.

Well, after the email didn't work i called them. Spoke with Theo, told him what was up and he asked what i wanted. I told him some compensation for time and effort and such. he said i can send send it back or he can credit me $20 back on my card. so i took the $20. he didn't even want pictures or anything. not too bad i guess.

Well at least they didn't tell you that it was your problem. The last time I received a credit it was a gift certificate.

Summit does believe in customer service and will work with customers that have issues as long as the customer isn't being downright hostile.

PaceSetter makes the headers for Summit, I wonder if they make the cats too because several people have had problems with welding on the PaceSetter headers.
