Default Wear item in distributor?

I have a '95 Ram 5.2. Someone recently told me that there is a wear item in or under the distributor that if worn, could cause poor running. It is either a bushing in the distributor that keeps the rotor shaft running true, or it's a part that requires removal of the distributor to get at and replace. Can anyone tell me specifically what can be replaced in or "under" the distributor? Thanks..

I believe they may be refering to the Camshaft Position Sensor. Its in the Distributor housing under the cap. It provides the PCM with a fuel sync signal. The sync signal is used in conjuction with the signal from the Crankshaft Position Sensor to maintain correct injector firing order. Napa carries it and is around $60.00. Napa calls it the Distributor Pickup Assembly.

tkid98,

Wow, fast response, thank you. I recently acquired the truck. The previous owner said it backfired at times, which causes me to think I have some sort of ignition problem causing the exhaust to load up with unburned fuel. In fact, it blew the back end of the muffler off. It recently had plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap. I'll double check his work but was looking for any possible cause. Thanks again.
