info on "bcm" body control module
ive got a 98, 1500 5.9l, it started idling rough and my engine light came on. so i hooked it up to my computer and my computer wont read anything. ive used this computer many times on this truck to get codes and it works perfectly fine on my roomates truck so i know its not that. recently i lost my power to my mirrors, my dome light and my horn. ive checked and replaced every fuse and cant figure it out. i was told by a shop that i may need to look into the bcm. does anyone know of the bcm that can give me some info? i would greatly appreciate it! thanks
The first thing I would check is the NEG battery cable. Almost sounds like a bad ground to the battery. If the NEG cable is ok, then a body panel ground would be my next thing on the chek list. Our trucks had horrible body grounds. Dodge lets a LOT of current flow thru it's panels.
I have a 95' and the grounds after 5-6 years went to ****. Anything I run extra on the truck, and any wiring that I have modified, I always ground them to a ground post that I fabricated myself.
Good luck with your ride.

I hope this does not sound stupid to most of you..
But a Friend of mine, on his 1997 v10 2500... He had similar problems...
His Problem was a wire harness that runs under the Driver side door sill.. once the kick panel is taken off, along with the door sill.
Pull up the carpet a bit and look at the Wires in that harness. (He had wires that were folded sharply and pinched to a break.) along with some corroded wires.
Once the Harness was repaired, all electrical systems started working agian..
Let me know if you find this issue as well?
Karl
