This looks simple but brilliant. I was also wondering why pay $50- $100 for a part that is going to break again anyway. My cup holder hinge is broke as well and this should do the trick. I downloaded the picture with the beaded chain and printed it. I see that the top end of the chains were secured using existing screws but I was wondering how you secured the bottom end that's attached to the cup holder itself? I just want to be sure what works best so that the weight of 2 full drinkswon't pull the screws back out of the cup holder.
For the bottom two screws, I drilled small pilot holes into the plastic itself and tightend the screws in to it.
I did this almost 3 years ago and all the screws are still as tight as the day I put them in.
