check this. it makes a rattley sound on the drivers side. auto trans linkage bushings - grease hell out of them.

dhvaughanthanks for the info... i found that out a couple months ago. pisses me off. i grease the hell out of it and sooner or later it comes back. i was thinking that there should be some kind of bushing in there.

what does the hood going side to side have to do with it, though?

the solonid is on the right front fender if you hold it you can fell it clicking. it is part of the emissions system. this is not on all the time so if you only hear it from time to time it may be it.

for you guys with 00-01 trucks with the shift linkage knock i have the bullitin with the updated parts to fix that noise. e-mail me and i will send you a copy of it.

it just caused my truck to wiggle in the right manner for the shift linkage to SQUEAK like hell.
no other up/down motions duplicated it right while it was sitting still.
but then i'd get in and start driving and squeak squeak squeak.

yup. it's so bad i can feel it in my column shifter. its the shift linkage that goes to your tranny.
if you get under your truck you'll see it come down to the tranny and it bolts to the underside of the floor.
take a look at it closely and you'll notice that one of the places that it connects doesnt have any bushings or anything inbetween, its metal on metal. grease the hell out of it. it'll help for a little while.

sorry, missed this question before. in my auto trans shifter linkage, there is a horizontal rod that connects the up/down rod to the back/forth rod. my horizontal rod has gray plastic/nylon bushings on both ends. those bushings were the source of my squeak if yours doesn't have them, it sounds like they may have broken and fallen out ?
