Possible new ram owner ... things to look for?
Hello all .... I've finally sold my car and am ready to buy a truck. I found a 1999 Ram 1500 with the 5.2 l V8 with 108,000 on the clock. I was wondering if there were any specific things I should look for when making my decision. According to the VIP summary report it has the 46RE transmission. I can get the vehicle for $8500 + TTL.
Thanks for any and all info on this vehicle.
Hope to be joining all the Ram owners shortly!

You can google the kelly blue book and get a idea...If its a 4x4 make sure it works ingage with out any clunking or what not.. tires make sure they have good tread and all the same size... test drive it listen for odd things .... wipers , lights , AC , heat , hornall work.. craw underneath it look for leaks .... if you have some one who you trust thats owns a garage have them look it over ... And if you are worried about the trans just change the fluid ASAP....Get a carfax report not most trusted but gives you a idea ....
In the future, please go to Kelley Blue Book at kbb.com so you can do this yourself and have an instant answer.

I may have miswritten my question ... I wasn't really asking what the truck was worth as I already checked out kbb and nada. I was asking if there are any problems that are inherent to this model?
thanks!

first off, these are nice trucks and i really like mine,
however, there are a lot of common problems with 2nd gen rams (94-01) that can be expensive to repair.
auto trans are weak, and prone to failure. (don't flame me i dont want to hear it)
4x4 front end parts are expensive to replace, incl bearings, ball joints, axle seals, ujoints. they do wear out.
engines and rear axles are strong and dependable.
plenum leak is common.
dash crack is common.
vacuum leak that causes heater/def controls to not work can be aggravating.
look over the truck and try to spot all the obvious problems. drive the truck a pretty good ways and get trans temp up to normal. a lot of trans problems work ok cold and show up when hot. if you have trans problem figure 1500-2500 to fix,. 4x4 front ends can really ad up to if your paying someone else.. 1000+
