Default Air Suspension question

I am going to install rear air suspension on my 01 to help with the towing and hauling I do. Has anybody else installed them on their 4X4? Does anybody have a recommendations for or against specific brands? I am pretty open at this point so any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I put the Air Lift brand ($180 @ JC Whitney)on my '99 4x4 two weeks ago. Took just 4 hours and that was with my Dad in the way (think he knows everything). The Air Ride came with a "dummy" boot that makes finding the mounting position and marking the holes easy. Just make sure your location on the springs leaves enough room at the top for the air fitting (about 1 inch between mount and frame).

They can be mounted front or back of the axle. My best fit was the front to avoid factory holes and a welded plate on the inside of the frame. Look for any cables/brake line that may be in the way.

Just make sure you have sharp drill bits. Makes the job much more enjoyable.

I also chose to allow side-to-side leveling with two air fill valves. I drilled the air fitting through the top twolicense plate holes on the rear bumper and through the plastic. That plate will never fall off or be stolen!!

Hope this helps!

I have the Firestone one on the back of my 01 quad cab 4X4. I have the guage and switch inside the cab and the pump is mounted to my passenger side fender well. You can lift or drop on the fly. I pulled a HUGE trailer with it once. If i didnt have the bags I wouldnt have been able to pull that trailer safely. I can send ya pics in a week or so when i get a new camera............. itll show everything so ya get an idea of what it looks like and where the pump is mounted.
Hope that helps

We put bags on one of our farm trucks (97 3/4 ext cab long box 4x4 V10) bout 2 years ago, same set up like morrgriff mentioned and it makes a world of difference pulling trailers and loading up the bed. During the summer we have a 200 gallon diesel tank for filling tractors in the field and pry another good 500-700 lbs of tools at any given time, just air up the bags and gets rid of the sag, plus rides smooth as can be, it's the same way with towing. I plan on putting bags on my 1500 soon as I get the funds

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like all of you are very happy with the air suspension setup when using it to pull or haul things.

Here is the setup I think that I am going to order:
Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Spring Kits- FIP2071 and
Firestone Electric Level Command II Systems- FIP-2158

Thought maybe I would also mount the gauge in the following pod:
Auto Meter Steering Column Gauge Pods- ATM-15012
I have the extra speaker hole in my 3-gauge pillar pod where I can mount the switch. The whole setup would be about $450.

I'll post some pictures once I am done mounting it.
