Default Which Modification

I recently purchased my 2001 Ram 1500 with a 5.9L V8 and am not sure where to begin with modifications. I would like to lift it, but first I want to increase my power, preferably low end power. Where should I start, Throttle body spacer, flowmaster muffler, flowmaster cat-back, chip, programmer?

I've been through all of this with an older jeep cherokee, but now I've moved up to the big leagues and V8s so I'm not clueless but I just don't know what works well on Dodge's 5.9L.

Thanks for the advice

I track tested all the individual bolt onsI added, results here http://rm-indy.com/Performance_Gains.htmFYI, .1 seconds of et reductions takes about 6rwhp.

TB spacersdo not work
Jet StageII (or 1) do not work, dont waste money on either

To start, get yourself a 14x3" K&N filter kit. Needs a 1/2" drop base. Cheap cost, muscle car looks and excellant performance.
Stock exhaust on a 98-02 is pretty good. You will see very little gain in hp/trq from a catback. If your looking for deeper sound. get some good mid/long tube headers with a ypipe and a hi flow cat. Hi flow cat will give the biggest gains on your exhaust side followed by headers then the catback. Hi/flow cats and headers add an excellant tone to the exhaust note.
Chip/Programmer
Hypertech or Superchips are 2 of your options though dont expect too much gains from them, ping problems are common with them. Formuch better performance get a B&G flash (www.bgchrysler.com) Need to send the stock computer in and have it reflashed for higher rev limiter, increased fuel and timing advance.

Basics out of the way, gears, what do you have?
If you plan to add 33s go with 410s min or 456 gears with 35" tires.
Another good item for leaving the line fast is a higher stall torque convertor. 2500 stall would help a bit and still work well with the stock cam.
Under drive pulleys help off the line but if your running a big stereo or plan to run a few offroad lights dont bother

More money to blow,,,,,
52mm tb (www.thefastman.com)
1.7roller rocker. Harland Sharp has alum rockers for a reasonable price. Good for adding low rpm torque and hp
Synthetic fluids motor, tranny and diff. While they do cost more intially, change intervals are longer so almost cost nuetral yet will give a small gain in performance and reduce temps and wear. Win win win situation.

Still not enough, get a Procharger supercharger kit. Nothing like adding 100rwhp (stock 5.9/more if you have mods)

Thats probably not an accurate depiction of how the mods will work in his truck, I will bet your motor is built from the inside out, that would compliment just about every mod you put on.

Guess you didint read the page too well. That list is in chronological order of adding each individual mod so it should be a very good indication of the kind of performance gains he can expect. Now he would not see those et reductions doing the exact same mods but it will increase hp/trq at similar rates to what I got.

FYI
I ran a 13.99 et on the 1/4mile with no power adders, stock tb, stock beerbarrel, stock heads and valve train, stock cam and all other internals
I didnt crack open the motor till after all the bolt ons were added.

Ok now I see it in the link, was thinking you were talking about the 408, have you been able to do any better than 12.91 in the 1/4, I figured with that much money invested you should be at low 11's by now...............
