Default 99 1200 starting issues

I have a 99 ram that is not wanting to start easily.
When I turn the key it will click once. I turn it several times and it will eventually start. It's not a grind just a single click. I am thinking it may be starter or solenoid ,
Any Ideas of how I can be sure?
Thanks

the problem is in the ignition itself...the ignition needs juice to run and if it doesnt get the right amount it clicks and wont start and if it gets too much well same thing so far the only place i can find that carries the piece you need is the dealership and of course it is not cheap...

whats this piece youre talking about?[sm=confused06.gif]

is your truck manual or automatic? your starter could be jammed in your flywheel.

do the lights dim when you try to start?

check all your wires on your battery and your starter. make sure theres no loose ones and that theres no corrosion.

jump a wire between the battery and the small terminal on the solenoid. if it starts, its not your solenoid or starter.

I did notice a typo it's a 1500 not 1200, Man Mondays are ruff.
It's an automatic, the lights don't dim at all, the battery is a 3 year old POS i had to get in a pinch.
I'll try jumping over to the solinoid next time see if it helps.

What part ar you talking about that is only carried at the dealer.
