Transmission whinning and limping
The past couple days have been colder than usual. The trans stays in 1st gear until the truck warms up (almost 30mins!). If I give a little throttle it actually slips into neutral, then back to first[&:]. It also does a loud whinning when cold, sounds almost like a supercharger. I'll rev up the engine and the truck moves slowly, almost like a worn down clutch, but it's automatic. I'm hoping a flush/filter will help, but I am wondering if something needs for be adjusted (kickdown cable or shift points.) This never happened last year and it was much colder then.
I dropped the pan yesterday, changed the filter and fluid and now it runs like a champ. Plenty of torq when I press the throttle now. The fluid that came out was dark and thick. No metal chunks!
For anyone experiencing what I had in cold temperatures, change the fluid/filter. When the ATF loses it's detergents and viscosity, the side effects are scary. It's good to be back.
