Default dash illumination failed - now fixed

Hi all,

Hope you can help, all the dashboard illumination has failed on my 2000 ram. The exterior headlights still work as do the interior lights.

I have checked all the fuses behind the small panel on the drivers side and the ones in the engine bay look good and I believe are unrelated. Can you please suggest what else could cause the problem?

I will try and check the wiring tonight with a meter if I get a chance.

Thanks chaps!

take a look at the wiring in the steering column where it meets the ign switch in 98-99 there was a tech tip through dodge about the wiwiring pins pulling out of the harness connector take a look and see if connector wiring is not pulled loose. its caused by the tilt action of the steering wheel

Bad headlight switch. The dimmer portion of the switch has probably gone bad. The resistance wire breaks and opens the circuit.

By any chance, do you have anything else added to the dash lamp circuit like a new stereo, or gauges maybe? The Dodge Ram headlamp switches are weak.

Good luck with your ride.

HI guys, thanks for the help!!

Im glad to say that i have fixed the issue!!! Turns out to have beena combination of a misplaced wire and a fuse in the engine bay that was marked for something totally different. Think it was parking lights fuse??!

Anyway thanks guys nice to see plenty of helpful folk on the forum
