Hello everyone I am getting ready to rebuid the automatictransmision in my 1996 Dodge Ram 2wd with a 318. I was wondering what kindof transmision i have, where I can get a rebuild kit for it, and also are there any manuals out there for these transmisions. I have rebuilt a couple c-6's and 700r4's all of which came out good has anyone here rebuilt one of these transmissions any tips would be well appreciated. Thanks very much in advanced.

 

You should have the first year of the 46RE,
a modification of the 46RH where the RE version allows the PCM computer to control the line pressure of the transmission.
The older 46RH (also called a 518) was a 727 auto that had its front planetary gear set made into the guts of an overdrive unit that was added to the back tailshaft.

I just ordered a kit for an older A413 and the book is by ATSG (Automatic Trans Service Group) both from JC Whitney.

They may have the book for the other transmissions and I would recommend it (about $20).

I don't know about the quality of the kit, there may may be better ones.
I don't think I do see the kit there. Maybe some one else has an idea of where to order.
