Default plugged cat

hey guys. On a tight budget right now and was wondering if I could just sawzall the pipes to the cat and use clamps to put the new one on? My other question is if the new cat says the inside diameter is 2.5 inch and my pipes going to the cat now are 2.25 inch(outside diameter)will it slip in and I can just clamp it. Or do I not make any sense!?

thanks for your help

you would need to get the right size cat inlet size & outlet size and get an adapter/union for both ends... then you could sawall it all out and clamp the new one in.

what makes you think it's clogged?

i went from 14.7 mpg to 9.5 mpg in about 13 days. I also lost alot of power from the truck. Truck is tuned up and I looked into the TB to make sure there was no puddles of oil in there. My neighbor used a heat gun( I think that is what he called it) and said my tempature going into the cat is alot higher than the temp coming out of the cat. The truck is a 99 with 75000 miles on it and original exhaust. I hope thats the problem. Engine idles smooth with no ping

yup, plugged with out a doubt. once you fix it, you should try to find out why it became plugged... and also clean your o2's while they are out.

sensor cleaner is what I want to use? When I use the clamps is there any specific torque setting or just tight as hell? the union that you mention is that like a coupler?

it's a slip type of fitting, you dont need to tighten too much, it'll crimp the pipes together and they wont come apart after that w/o cutting one of them.

go to the auto parts store and get CRC electronic component parts cleaner... use nothing else but this it is the only thing that I have used that actually worked. spray all of the holes that are exposed to the exhaust stream and dont be stingy... once your done, let it dry and re-install. do this every 25~30k and it'll keep its performance at it's peak
