msd coil question
blaster high vibration coil http://www.msdignition.com/coil_blaster_3_8222.htm
or a regular blaster 2?
or a regular blaster 2?
anyone have any suggestions on boxes? msd6, msd6a, msd6al, msd6 offroad (this one sounds good to me). im looking to do my whole ignition over i want something durable but awesome.
i have a msd off road for mine. the box you chose depends on how you drive it. the off road work from idle to 3000 rpm. i dont go over 3000 most of the time. and i got it for free. 6al is overkill, you dont needone revlimiter unless it is a weekend racer. i say 6a, if you plan on going through a lot of water or live in a flood area, go with the offroad. that has the better water tight connectors on it. last year here in mass we had good flood which i had gone through water 4 1/2 ft deep.as far as a coil go to the link below and get that, it is about the same as you posted. if your truck is a 98 or later you will need a coil connector from a 97 or earlier.

I would not buy an aftermarket ignition box
because I think the gains are very small.
I would spend the time & money on irridium tipped sparkplugs
indexed in each cylinder, instead.
If you must buy a MSD
buy the $600 MSD Digital 7 box
with allows each of the 8 cylinders to have
its own custom ignition timing.
That is probably good for 8-24 hp gain
but you will have to spend 40 hours or so
tuning each of the 8 cylinders.

the Pertronix "Second Strike" box is also worth a look

because it keeps your 'good' factory ignition
and adds a second spark that lengthens total spark duration time.
Dodge
{and most aircraft engine makers}
are trying to tell you something with
the dual sparkplugs on the 5.7 Hemi
...it is about the best ignition 'mod' that can
be done to an engine
especially in the daily driving 1500-3000 rpm range.

the off road coil is a good choice if you have a 4x4 and wheel alot... the off road spark box will work great as well... gains are small, downside is it eats caps & rotors faster than you'd like... if you do go this route, stick with the mopar cap & rotor... everything else I tried did not last as long as the mopar parts did

i sometimes go off road. not too much. the offroad coil i liked because it seems more durable to me. i have no clue what to get for the box. i like to floor it from one light to the next. and quick acceleration on the highway is very improtant to me. i dont want to go all out on a msd7 because its kinda expensive. what do the rest of you think?
i have run an MSD6AL on my truck and all 3 of my Camaro's and have had success with them. hell if you are going to drop 600 - 700 on a 7AL box, why not go all out and buy a FAST XFI system? tuning doesn't get much better than that.
the 6AL is NOT the end all for ig'n boxes, but for daily usage and bang for the buck i think a good option.
