junkyard axles
dang i edited my post and somehow deleted my entire first post..... ill retype it-
if i found axles from a ram in a junkyard with 4.10 gears in them, what would be involved in the swap? i've read tempsho's thread about it, but i dont think its the same since he upgraded to one tons, and im talking about sticking with the same axles just different gears. what years (of 94-01) would work easiest with my 95? or i guess not easiest; which ones would work at all?
how much SHOULD axles from a junkyard cost

Axle swaps same to same are not too bad. Make sure you have good jack stands, and someone to help muscle things around. You may need new rear u-bolts, some brake lines, parking brake cablesetc. Keep in mind you might need to repair the new axles depending on what kind of shape they are in. Could need ball joints, wheel bearings, brakes and so on. Consider those costs when looking for replacements, it adds up fast. Stick with second gen dodge axles, save alot of trouble swapping.
Prices vary alot, so do plenty of digging. Don't jump at the first ones unless they are a steal. Look locally first to get an idea of what is out there for choice and price. Then scour the web sites like this one for someone who went to 3/4 axles. Also keep and eye on e-bay for something close to you. Might pay anywhere from 300-1500 a pair. Some higher line salvage yards are very pricey. I've seen them for $1200 each.

if it did need new brakes, i could just swap the brakes off of my current axles onto the new ones, right?
socha- yea i wish i could afford that, also wish i had the know-how and the money!! right now i just want a freakin better gear ratio for my tires.
snopro- why would i need new u-bolts and brake lines, etc? i figured that stuff would still fit since its still 2.5 inch springs and whatnot??

Yes everything would swap over if it was good shape. Front calipers stay with the truck, brake pads, driveshaftsetc also. I live in the rust belt so that makes things alot harder when working on this stuff. The u-bolts and rear brake lines, sometimes they can be rusted solid. A little heat and careful touch can save a brake line, not too much heat, brake fluid will boil and pop a rubber line. I've done it. U-bolts can be re-used if the threads are in good shape. Don't risk it if they are questionable.
