95 Ram problem
I have a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, 360 w/ auto. After it warms up for a few minutes of driving, the transmission feels like it goes into neutral. if i stop, put it in park, turn it off and restart it, its fine and u can drive it for a few more minutes until it does it again.
Unfortunately, it sounds like your clutch seals are so worn that when your transmission's ATF gets warm the seals are leaking so badly they can not apply enough pressure for shifting.
You probably need a transmission rebuild ($350 to $2300)
It is best to rebuild before something more serious goes wrong inside your transmission than just worn out seals.
If you don't have the cash for a rebuild and must use the truck,
try dropping the pan,
replacing the filter,
and then refill with an ATF fluid that is more 'viscous' (more like honey than like kerosene) so that the seals won't leak quite as easily.
Some use Ford Type F ATF as a more viscous fluid.
Bill Kondolay of Dieseltrans.com has reported on using
Mobil One 0w-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
inside Dodge automatic transmissions
but it is much more expensive than Type F ATF.
Obviously, after doing this drive the truck very gently
if you are trying to stretch out the last bit of life from the trans.
Practice 'lift your foot' shifting to keep the rpms from going high.
Some might suggest adding a bit of 'seal sweller'
like a bottle of 'TransMedic'
or a few tablespoons of brake fluid
but often these chemicals cause the seals
to swell so much they quickly break
and loose all ability to hold pressure.
