Default duals/cat converter

I was thinking about putting dual exhaust on my ram 1500. My only problem is my cat converter is going bad(rattling like crazy), and i was wondering when i get an estimate to get dual exhaust put on, does my cat converter get replaced if i switch from my single exhaust to dual exhaust. I got an estimate of 350.00 for flowmaster's. Im trying to convince my dad to let me get duals, and maybe if The cat comes with the new exhaust system, hell let me. Thanks

Are you talking a true full dual exhaust from manifolds on out the back? Most duals are just two pipes after the cat. A factory cat is pricey, I would doubt it's included in the price. If you use dual pipes you will need two cats if you have emissions tests in your area. If not you could forget the cats and just make sure you have fittings welded in for your O2 sensors. Make sure you discuss price and function with the installer to make things clear.

last week I bought a '98 1500 with a 5.2 L the former owner put dual exhaust on it from front to back, cut out the cat they did put fittings in the pipe for the sencors but the check engine light does come on. I have to say it does sound cool with this dual pipes but the rest of the truck , not so sure.

Just cut the cat off, stand it on end, and pound the guts out with a large steel bar. I did it and it worked great.
