98 4x4 gear question

Default 98 4x4 gear question

just bought a 98 ram 1500 4x4 318 automatic, i have a howling in my rearend wich changes pitch between acceleration and deceleration so looks as if i will be needing a ring gear and pinion soon. what size of rear do i have? 8.75? 9.25? what is the cheapest place to buy new gears and the best brand??? mopar? dealership? help the new guy out here....

You have a Chrysler 9.25. Not sure about best price, I'd watch eBay.

Does a slight howling nessicarily mean the ring gear is bad?

Mine does it from the front slightly when its in 4wd.

ill check summitt and jegs, its not too bad of a howl but probably needs tending too this year sometime. just wondered if there was a place on the net other than ebay that has them at a discount. i haven't even called dealership to see what mopar's are.
