Several Problems
Hello everyone,
Before I lay out my trucks problems, here is some backgroung info. 1996 1500, 4WD, 360, auto trans. The cat clogged up and I gutted it because I was curious as to the effect it would have after reading posts on this forum.Gas milage went from 15 to 8 mpg. Ran like crap and had a black liquid being blown out the tailpipe. I have since installed a cat and cleaned, as best I could, the O2 sensors. I still have lousy gas milage and a black liquid coming out the tail pipe.
I have oil in my gas. I'm having to change my oil every two weeks due to losing oil pressure at idle when the oil is thinned out by the gas. the engine rpm's die at idle once the truck is warm. Thisstarts happening about 7-10 days after a oil change depending on how much the truck is being driven.I checked fuel pressure at the rail with a mechanical guage and saw no drop in pressure in ten minutes. 48psi at the guage. I also used a stethoscope to listen to the injectors. They were clicking away and sounded the same. I have searched this forumfor help but nowI'm stumped.Any thoughts are welcome.
I have pinging during acceleration just before gear shift(automatic trans). Probably the plenum.
I'm getting a PO171(too lean)about 7 minutes after a cold engine start. About a minute after that, P0172(too rich) pops up. I turned off the engine, cleared the codes, restart and it does it again in 3 minutes. Engine idles only, no stepping on the gas. Idles a little rough at times. The O2 sensor plugs and wiring look okay. I haven't gone in and taken a hard look at the power steering/O2 harness fluid wicking possibility yet. The O2 sensors were clogged and I used carburator cleaner to clean them. I hesitate to repace one or both O2 sensors if they are going to clog again. The posts on this forum deal with one or the other code, but not both together.
I wonder if any of the above problems are affecting each other? I can use any help youcan give.
Thanks,
Mac

heres what you...its kind of abusing the system though....replace one of the o2 sensors, see if that works, if it doesnt, take that one back, say its damaged, ask for a replacement and get the other sensor as well....so now you have 2 new sensors....as for the ping....well 99% likely its the plenum as there really is no otther explanation for these trucks other than that.
HI GUYS!!.. This is regarding the container that catches oil blown out of crankcase
vent tube and needs to be emptied every oil change or it runs over leaking oil under the engine.
The question is............: I will like to find and check this container or plastic bottle my self.
Somebody in this forum saidis mounted on the front of the engine but how can I get to
it?... from under the vehicle on from the top? where is the exact location
because I CAN NOT see it or find it. Does anybody in this forum knows the "exact" location of the invisiblecontainer? I will appreciate feedback.Thanks.
