Easy HP increases?
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first Dodge also. I was searching the web looking for some tips on how to gain a little HP out of my truck to pull my boat, it will be pushing the tow rating at around 9000 pounds. I have not pulled the boat yet with this truck, so maybe it will pull fine, I just don't like it that this truck has a lower towing capacity rating than similar Fords and Chevys. I do like the truck a lot though, and it was in my price range.
Saw on another post that air raid intakes don't work. I don't have much money to spend on the truck, so what can be done easily and farily cheaply? Or should I not worry about it?
Thanks.

that pickup should tow that boat just fine. one thing you can do for just a little hp gain is aftermarket exhaust alot of guys run flowmaster but i prefer v-force. dont straight pipe this truck you will loose horse power. i did when i straight piped mine. you will probably hear about turbinators dont buy those eiter it will decrease hp due to restriction of air flow. your best bet is get a superchip or cold air intake both run about 300 t 400 bucks depending on what you go with. the only bad thing with superchips is you have to run premium fuel when you turn it up. those are my suggestions without spendin a bunch of money. good luck. air flow is a major part in hp so go from there.

No need to spend big bucks on a cold air intake! Mr Gasket sells a 14"x3" air cleaner setup for around $30 and the power difference ( and sometimes increased mpg) is amazing!

there are a large number of relatively cheap and easy mods that both produce power and lower fuel consumption in the engine section 2/3rds of the way down on this VERY LONG post:

for towing it is worth reading the aero and tire sections too
