computer swap
This is my first post, but i have been lurking for a couple weeks.
will a computer from a 1995 Ram 1500 5.9L swap out with one from a 2001 Ram 1500?
Also is there someplace to go to interpret the rear and front end tags, to find out what rear gear is in there, and whether it is limited slip or not?
thanks
Matt

Im not 100% sure, but i HERD that in 97 dodge switched from a hydralically controled tranny, to an electronic one... therefore I HIGHLY doubt it would work...
If you want to know if its LSD, or open diff's just jack the truck off the ground (both tires) and spin one... If they spin opposite ways its open, if they spin the same way its LSD.
There is a tag on the diff's that say the ratio...
Mine says "35" meaning 3.55 gearing.
There is also another tag with a model number or somthing on it, there should be 2 tags.

I know the jacking it up part. When i do both tires spin. If someone holds 1 tire, with enough push 1 will spin, 1 will not. So if it is a LSD it must be well worn.
looking for a definate tag number to determine for sure. otherwise i will have to pull the cover.
where is the best place to get a LSD rebuild kit?
can they be repacked with different number of clutches vs, steels? or do these have a different style LSD?
BTW the one in quesion is out of a 1995 Ram 1500, looking to install in my 2001. I am assuming they are the same. am i right?

Computers are not the same! Your 95 pcm is an earlier version of the OBD2 system. Many functions and programs are different, include how the OBD functions. That's in addition to the tranny differences. They may physicly hook up but I doubt the 95 would work properly.
