Default Need to change the heater core

Has anyone replaced the heater core on a 2000 5.9 liter. I was wondering if I really need to unhook the A/C lines to do it. I figure I do but whanted to check first. Thanks.

just have to get the lines off the heatercore under the hood, then all the **** under the dash starts, thats the tough part, not to much room back there, you may want to remove the airbag give yourself a little more room

The A/C lines never need to be removed unless it is for work on the A/C system. And only then the work should be performed by a trained and certified technician with the right tools.

So you are sure that I do not have to discharge the A/C system to change out the heater core. The Haynes manual states that the system needs dischared and the lines need unhooked at the firewall. Have you changed a heater core on a second gen? Im just trying to save myself the hassle of discharging, unhooking lines, getting new gaskets and then recharging the system. Thanks alot

I was just wondering, because some people think they need to replace their heater core just because their not getting enough heat (and they haven't tried flushing the core).
But since it's leaking.... have fun [:'(]

no problem, you may want to remove the compressor to get the lines out of your way though, just to make it a little easier workin right there
