i just bought a 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a blown motor we put a new motor in and changed the tranny fluid and the guy told us we have to use atf+4 i suggest valvoline atf+4 fullsynthtic it smells really bad but it is great stuff also while ur at it if ur truck is a 4x4 u might want to change the transfercase fluid to it is really easy to get to and change but to fill it u have to use a turkey baster to put the fluid in i think it holds like 3 qts or somthing like that
i would suggest lucas oil, for your tranny, when u do a fluid change just replace a qt of +4 with lucas transmission stop slip, even if its not slipping, Ihave had great experience with lucas oil with every thing i have used it for.
As one who has used Lucas and learned the hard way...DON"T!! It is not compatable with ATF+4. Lucas is a viscositythickener which can radicaly change how ATF+4 functions in your truck, for the worst. I managed to get mine out quickly. The tranny shuddered and slipped horribly until I got it all flushed out.
The only other fluid you can run (short term) in a Dodge tranny is seafoam, and that's only to clean it out.

No biggie, it works well in older rams, andI have used the Power steering product in my truck, which solved a squealing issue. We used it for yearsback in the midwest in farm equipment and semi trucks.
