Default tranny problems?

I have a ’98 sport, with the 318. I bought it about 6 months ago, and it ran fine when I bought it. About 3 months ago, I noticed a leak from my tranny pan and changed the filter, fluid and gasket. But recently I’ve noticed something’s been causing my truck not to run right and it’s been getting worse and worse. When I accelerate its doest quite have the pick up it used to, and sometimes actullylaggs around before taking off,and it doesn’t always want to shift right. Within the last 2 weeks, I’ve noticed that I used to be able to run approximately 70-75MPH at about 2100RPM or so, and now am running about 2200RPM at about 60-65. Is my tranny going out or could there be other problems? And if it is in fact my tranny, what are your recommendations for repair/replacement on a semi tight budget. Thanks
