Default Your take on the 8.0

Hi everyone, Im new her on the forum but am looking to buy a 2ng gen ram 1500 or 2500. I've found a 2500 that seems to be a good deal but it has the 8.0L in it. I'm not familiar with the v10 and was wondering waht everyone on here thinks about it. I have no real use for that much power in my truck but it seems like a good buy. Would you guys rather the 5.9 or the 8.0. Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

If it's a good deal I'd take it. More power is always cool. As long as you're not planning on getting stellar gas mileage, but you wouldn't get it with the 5.9 either.

V10 tows better than a V8
In a 2500 the V10 will probably get better mpg as well.
Towing I get up to 12mpg with 6k on the hitch plus 1000lbs of pass/gear. Usually gets less empty cause Im heavy footed lol.

Not trying to sway you one way or the other...just some facts as I see them...
[ol][*]V10 has pulled anything I've ever wanted it to without even breaking a sweat. Including through mountains.[*]V8 gets better mpg, but only marginally better.[*]Parts for V8 are a little cheaper and easier to find.[*]V10 can be a little harder to work on...(less elbow room under the hood)[*]V10 and V8 are very reliable with routine maint.[/ol]
Moral of the story...it's a toss up. If it were me...I'd go with the V10 if using it for any towing...otherwise I'd go with the V8.

1500's suck. with the 2500, you get a stronger frame, very heavy duty axles (D60 and D70), and of course, a big bump in HP and torque with the V10.

plus, it's not like you're gaining 15 mpg more with the 1500 V8 or anything....at best you'll pick up 1 or 2.

i'd go with the v10 myself, i have the318 and there isn't a moment i wouldn't trade it in for something more powerful. really the v10 is just a 360 with two cylinders added to it. so there is some parts interchange (rockers, pushrods, connecting rods, pistons, etc.) plus like they said earlier gas milege is going to suck nonetheless. my best so far has been 14 mpg. hwy.

Go with the v10 if you think you might tow later on. Three years agomy Ram was excessive, but now it is just right as I have recently purchased a large 5th wheel. I have had no major problems and am still quite happy with it. Yes the gas milage sucks: I average 9-10 mpg loaded or unloaded. Hope that helps a bit.
