Default noisy cat- the sequel

in earlier post(noisy cat), had strange rattling underneath truck. thought it was trans pan, but was coming from cat. to make a long story short, rattle stopped, and then truck went down to 15mph. would not take gas at all, but would idle along fine. no movement in tach, so not tranny slipping. thought i had it shook around enough to make it 2 miles to shop. would rev up fine in yard. well about a half mile down the road, went to nothing again, and cat was so hot you couldnt touch it, but aft was cool, so am definately thinking cat. any way, to save towing bill, my mechanic came over the hill on a 4 wheeler and pushed it downhill to shop, where it sits in waiting. from what knowledge others here have, am i correct in thinking cat? any help is welcome
