Default Trailer ???

Would a 1500 pickup pull an approximate 22 foot trailer or would that be meant more for a 2500

I'd think a 1500 could probably pull it although I'm sure a 2500 would be better. What kind of trailer is it? Open like car trailer type? If so I wouldn't hesitate to pull it with a 1500. Although unloaded I've seen one pulled with a Dakota without any problems. What do you plan on hauling on it? Depends on how much weight's on it.

What type of 22' trailer, i. e. what is it used for, and how much will it weigh? Boat, flatbed, enclosed?

I wouldn't hesitate to pull a car or four wheelers on a 22' flatbed with a 1500. Now thats just me. I don't know what others would reccomend and I don't want to tell you it's fine to do something as if you have a problem or something so I wouldn't listen too much to what I say. I just wouldn't hesitate to do it with mine. A tractor I'd pull too although I'm not sure how big of a tractor. I mean a normal tractor I'd pull but some of the big 60-100k tractors that are huge I'm not so sure about. I've got a friend that pulls his tractor around fine with his but he does have a fairly small tractor. Not a baby tractor but not a huge one either.

You should be fine with your pickup, I've pulled a John Deere 2020, pickups, all sortsa stuff on a 20ft flatbed without any troubles, just be sure to extra time and distance to slow down and stop, horse and cattle trailers haven't given me any troubles either. Also it's not uncommen for me to pull a 1000 gallon water tank from field to field, that's pushing 9500 lbs, maybe lil more. I don't know what rear end you have or what class of hitch you are using, which could affect performance and safety, but if you've got the capability, you might as well use all of it.

How much does it weigh? Weight is going to be a bigger factor in this case than length. I pull a 30' travel trailer that is close to 7000 lbs. loaded. I don't spend alot of time in the mountains. Flat land towing is no problem at all. The length really doesn't bother me just depends on what you are used to. Have not had any issues with sway problems. I do use a weight distribution hitch with sway control but I have towed the trailer without the sway control and it was fine. I also have a boat that is only about 2500 lbs. Barely even notice it is back there even in the mountains.Generally, at least in my opinion, 5000 to 6000 lbs. for most half tons works well with the proper tongue weight and towing equipment.
