Default 1/2 Ton Diesel?!

My buddy is thinking about selling his '01 Saturn for a truck, probably because we give him so much crap about having a dinky car (Not to mention the fact his parents will probably end up paying for most of the truck, while I'm stuck struggling to make payments for mine [:@]) But he said he found a 1/2 ton Chevrolet 6.5 Turbo Diesel, so I told him no way, they didn't put Diesels in 1/2 tons. I say this because I've never seen one or heard of one. His reply was of corse "yeah they did". (Even though he knows nothing about cars/trucks and has a hard time admitting it since its all me and the others I live with talk about...I had to explain to him that Z71 was really nothing special, and that 99.9% of 4x4 GM's are in fact Z71, he thought it was more bad *** and super special because it was a Z71)

Anyways I told him either the 1500 was a misprint or the Diesel was, or maybe the Diesel was even swapped in so I look at the picture and sure enough I can see 1500 on the side of it. So Hmm, I grab the VIN and 8th is an S, so I look that up and see that is actually says 6.5 Diesel on one VIN lookup site.

So have any of you heard of or seen a 1/2 ton truck with a factory diesel? Its not a little 4 banger, its a big boy 6.5 Diesel. Its a 1994 Chevy btw.

Why would they even make this? That engines capable of pulling a crap ton, but the trucks suspensions can handle probably 6-7k lbs. Kinda wierded me out, I guess deep down it ****'s me off too a bit since this kid has almost everything given to him, including his summer internship at $20 an hour [:@]

I believe Chevy and GM did have diesel options in their early 90's half tons. Don't think there were alot of them. The 6.5 was not a real horsepower monster but it did have great torgue. I have heard rumor that Ford is considering a half ton diesel in the future. Possibly next year. And Dodge is talking 2009.

Yeah Chevy has diesel in the 1/2 ton model's in those year's .
I think they were 6 lugger's . On Chevy that meen's heavy1/2 or light 3/4 ton.
There not very common though due to the impracticality of the set up.
The axle's ain't rated for the loadthatthe engine was capable of doing.

Eh, it'd be cool to to haul stuff with your 1500 without getting **** for gas mileage. I wouldn't want one though. Not enough wheel spin

I used to follow a guy outta work every morning that had a heavy 1/2 chevy with a diesel, he was always messing with the jets in the damn thing so if you got within 100 ft behind, your eyes would water.
