Default Plenum question, I searched first I promise!

First off, This is a great site and a tremendous help to wanna-be's like myself. Thanks to all of you who are far better at this shady tree mechanicing than I am. I've lurked here since I bought the truck and through searching the forum have found all the answers to my questions. Like countless other Ram owners I've been on the board a ton and never "needed" to post because of all the info here already. All that to say please don't think that I've come from nowhere to post one question never to return.

I've searched already and can't find an answer to this question that sits well with me. I've purchased the Hughes kit and am committed to the replacement, the diy is helpful, but one of the symptoms I'm having is an increased idle speed that I would normally guess is a vacuum leak. Since the plenum fix is an internal vac leak will this fix the idle problem as well? I guess the real question is does an internal vac leak present with the same symptoms as an external vac leak? If not is there a usual suspect that coudl be causing the leak?

Thanks in advance

99 5.2 4x4 5spd 129,xxx and many more on the way I'm sure

It very possibly could cause your high idle as well. Does your 4WD work correctly?

I don't have any problems with the 4X4. What were you thinking? I'm too green to see the correlation.

I had this same problem. I replaced the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and the IAC (Idle air Controler) reset the computer and poof problem solved. I did the Hughes thing before I did these mods. I also removed and cleaned the TB during the process. Replaced the TB gasket if you pull it.

You were asking about possible problems from a vacuum leak. Most times, if an external leak is present, your CAD unit will have trouble engaging/disengaging.

replace the IAC and clean the tb for the fast idle.
replace TPS if you downshift from OD frequently, especially with cruise on, or you mash the gas and nothing seems to happen.
