Engine shuts down!
This morning after pumping gas, 89, I was driving for about 30 min. and my truck completely down. My 2000 5.9 Dodge has never gave me any serious problems, but today the same thing happened three times until I finally reached my destination. It just kept on shutting down. I was in the freeway going about 60 m.p.h. and it just completely shut down. I had to pull over and wait about 3 mins. and it turned back on. The turned off again. Does anyone know what can be wrong with it. I am mechanically challenged but think it might be my fuel pump. Does anyone know how much it would cost to repair at the dealer? Where is it located?
its the fuel pump.. like bill said its in the tank.. if you decide to do it yourself i think the easiest way would be to just take your bed off then try to drop the tank down and un-do all the lines
I dont think it would jst kill it all of a sudden, but there was a recall on the cats on these trucks for falling apart and clogging the exhaust up. Maybe its clogged and kills it, then once the pressure is released from it sitting it will run for a bit. Might as well check before messing with the tank.
When 1 of my O2 sensors went bad my truck ran horrible and was at the point of almost turning off, but my truck did finally throw a code. The first couple times it happened it didn't throw a code.
I had a buddy who had the same sort of problem, but it wasn't fuel related. Turned out his ignition wire from the key was being flexed everytime he tilted the steering wheel and finally frayed thru causing a short which would intermitently stop the engine. Not to say that your problem is this, but you should be sure that you have a fuel problem before going to all the work of dropping the tank.

I seem to remember seeing something very similar to this a long time ago (like ... last August). Turned out that the guy's CPS was intermittent.
I'd throw a TPS at it, too ... just in case.

Ill make sure to find out what it is before dropping the tank. Ill probably just take it to the dealer it might be expensive but they have taken good care of me before. Thank You guys for responding
